Winter Wishlist

Monday, 22 December 2014

Is it just me that feels it's been winter for months now? I'm getting a little sick of having to wear multiple pairs of socks to stop my toes freezing off! Spring is still a good two months away though, so I'll need to put up with my winter wardrobe for a bit longer. That means I still have plenty time to add a few new cold weather appropriate pieces to my ever expanding wardrobe though. Here's a peak into my wish list as we head toward the new year.

1. Stretch Leather Boots, Black or Grey - Zara, £99.99
I've yet to invest in a pair of knee high boots, I can never find a pair that fit my legs nicely. I have high hopes for these ones from Zara though, the elasticated back sounds perfect! As ever, I can never say no to a pair of Suede boots, I know these are going to be walking into my shoe collection sometime soon, the only question left is black or grey. What do you think?

2. Checked Scarf - Zara, £19.99
My favourite thing about winter dressing is definitely big cosy scarves. I picked up a very autumnal coloured plaid one from Zara a few weeks ago and I've been wearing it nonstop, even if it is so big it partially obscures my vision! I debated picking this one up at the same time but resisted, it would be a perfect way to complete a cozy monochrome outfit though!

3. Printed Cigarette Trousers - Zara, £35.99
Printed trousers are always a good idea. I really love these houndstooth ones and they would be perfect year-round, not just for winter. Typical me, I've been wearing monochrome for probably three months straight now, and these would fit into my wardrobe perfectly. They'd be so perfect with a chunky black roll neck.

4. Seam Front V-Neck Jumper - Topshop, £38.00
I already own this jumper in khaki, and it's wonderful. Soft, slightly oversized and super warm without being the annoying itch that usually comes with winter jumpers. When I find a piece of clothing I really love, it's not uncommon for me to buy it in various colours. This jumper is no exception.

5. Houndstooth Cape - Zara, £79.99
Once again with the houndstooth, I love this cape/jacket. Again this was something I nearly purchases last time I was in store. As soon as the Zara sale arrives next week, this will be in my basket on it's way to me. I think this will look amazing with some black leggings and boots.

6. Eskimo Friend Ankle Boots - Asos, £55.00 now £27 on sale
These look incredibly comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of noisy heels on pavements so the rubberised heel on these is perfect for me. I'm always on the lookout for a great pair of black boots and I really like the style of these.

7. Mesh Panel Jumper - Topshop, £42.00
Does this remind anyone else of something that top from the Alexander Wang x H&M collection? This is a great, slightly more reserved version for those of us who didn't manage to pick it up before it sold out. I wasn't a huge fan of the AW one, but I could see myself wearing this one all the time.

Hopefully one or two of these pieces will be making their way to me soon! What is top of your winter fashion wish list?

Burgundy Bags and Autumn Loving

Monday, 13 October 2014

With it now being well into Autumn, this post seems a little overdue. I can't believe these photos were taken nearly six weeks ago. September was crazy hectic and it looks like October is going to be pretty similar. I'd forgotten how busy it is during term time at university, a fashion design degree ain't no walk in the park!

Despite this post being planned for sometime in September, I feel like my planned title remains appropriate. I'm still loving autumn and burgundy bags just as much as I did then! I feel like this is the perfect time of year for my Coach bag, I could just stare at the colour for days! Pairing it with a monochrome outfit really makes it pop.

The weather's been getting progressively colder though over the last few weeks, so the days of not wearing a jacket are long gone. I would probably pair this outfit with my leather jacket, which has barely had a rest this month. What would I do without it!?

Here's hoping that it won't be quite so long until my next post, and that your lives have been far less hectic than mine! Have a great week.

Plaid on a Thursday

Thursday, 18 September 2014

I love the beginning of Fall, when we still have some of those gorgeous warm days. This was from a few weeks ago now. Kept it casual as usual but decided to add a bit of colour with this red shirt. I feel like it was the perfect addition to my outfit. Again, more blue jeans, I did say I've been wearing them non-stop.

I'm now back at university and all moved into my flat for the year. It feels so strange yet comforting to be back once again. It's crazy that I'm a quarter of the way through my degree already.

September Stripes

Thursday, 11 September 2014

I have a funny relationship with skirts. Sometimes I wear them all the time, others I don't go near one for months. I've been in a skirt mood recently though, and I've been greatly enjoying it. There's not many things I love more than thick black tights!

I've rediscovered this top after having it for nearly five or six years and not wearing it for the last four of them! I'm not sure why I've not worn it much, I really like it. It's so comfortable! Making the most of the warm weather the past few days, it'll soon be freezing cold again, winter is coming.

All Time Classic

Tuesday, 9 September 2014

Top: Forever 21, Jeans: Zara, Bag: Kate Spade, Shoes: TOMS
Yet again I'm sporting blue denim cuffed jeans. I think this has probably been one of my most worn styles over the summer, literally every single pair of jeans I own has a few turn ups at the ankles just now. I've only wore blue denim a handful of times in the last year but now I can't get enough of them!  I love wearing them with a loose fitting top, tucking it in just a little at the waist.

I've been obsessing over the handbag I'm using here recently, I picked it up in July and I've been using it non-stop. It has a gorgeous perforated pattern on the front that is so different to any other bag I own and the colour of it is so versatile! After thinking about getting a charcoal coloured bag for years I'm glad I finally have this one!

I'm heading back to university at the end of this week which I'm crazy excited about. As much as I love being at home and surrounded by so much greenery, I can't wait to get back to the city.

Top: Topshop, Shorts: Mango, Bag: Kate Spade, Shoes: Mulberry, Sunglasses: RayBan
This post will be my final outfit from my holiday, I can't believe how quickly the past month has gone. Is it really so far into September already!? I've been trying to drag out posting the photos I took while I was away for as long as possible, it's been nice to pretend this is the kind of outfit I've actually been wearing recently. I miss shorts and sandals, especially the ones I'm wearing here!

These shorts are from Mango, and they're one of my favourite pairs. I love that they are a little more formal, so I tend to wear these when I go out for dinner. They crease pretty easily which is a bit of a pain, but I don't normally wear them for an entire day anyway so it's not too much of a disaster! I paired it with this cropped blouse, I'm not a massive fan of spots on clothing but I really like this shirt for some reason.

As sad as I am to see the end of summer, I can't wait to break out my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. See you soon.

What's That? A Hat?

Wednesday, 3 September 2014

I finally did it. I bought a hat.

I've been wanting to pick up one of these hats for weeks now. Believe it or not, before yesterday I hadn't set foot in a shop that didn't sell food, for nearly a month! Is that a new all time record for me? I think so.

I popped into the city centre yesterday afternoon though for some lunch at my favourite cafe and a little bit of shopping. I'm not sure if churros with caramel sauce and a few macarons can really be considered lunch, it was delicious though! Along with this hat I also bought a new leather jacket, which quite honestly, is the new love of my life. It's seriously gorgeous and I can't wait to share it with you.

Spice Up Your Life

Monday, 1 September 2014

I'll be honest and say it straight out. I don't think I have ever looked so tanned in my whole life. Maybe the camera emphasised it a little (a lot), maybe I really was that tanned!? Whatever the reason, I've been back for almost a month now and I'm back to my classic Scottish pale.

On to the outfit now, yet another pair of patterned joggers from Topshop to add to my collection. I did get a fair few strange looks from people when they spotted these, but ah well, I love them that's all that matters! I wore it with my new favourite top, (again from Topshop, oops!) It has such a Spice Girls/Sporty Spice look, that I'm just loving at the moment.

Looking Lime-y

Friday, 29 August 2014

This was the outfit I wore to my cousins wedding last weekend. I'll be honest and say that I absolutely love it! The photos aren't super because I was in the typical mad running late rush and somehow, I had forgotten to change the camera to autofocus so most of the ones I took were all fuzzy. How annoying! I felt like these two photos show my outfit pretty well though, although I do blend into the background a little!
Dress: Calvin Klein, Shoes: Ugg Australia, Bag: Kate Spade

The dress is from Calvin Klein, I picked it up from Macy's while I was in Florida last month. It was actually a very reasonable price, and I immediately knew it was the perfect dress for me. I love anything that is lime green, there is actually one particular shade that has been named 'Joanne Green' by my friends because I own so many things in that colour, oops! I love the seams that run along the dress, they add just a touch of detail while still maintaining a minimal look. I think it's one of my favourite clothing items I've ever owned!

I paired it with my all time favourite wedges from Ugg, seriously they are the most comfortable shoes! I then used my small black Kate Spade bag, I love how it can so easily be used for both casual and more formal outfits. I finished off the look with my favourite nail polish, Dior's Psychedelic Orange, I'm obsessed with this colour combo! I've been wearing it a ton ever since I picked it up in the Spring, I actually got it in Duty-Free on my way home from Tenerife for something crazy like 5 Euros! Definitely one of my best beauty purchases this year!

In other news I've just booked a trip to London for next week which I'm really excited for. Three days of wandering around my favourite city, art museums and buying too many macarons from Laduree.

Style Spotlight #3: Ultimate Fall Handbags

Wednesday, 27 August 2014

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather recently and combined with the fact I’m not back to university for another few weeks, it means I’ve had a ton of free time. So I’ve had plenty of time to spend online, looking at the new fall collections that have arrived into stores over the last few weeks. It’s definitely made me wish I could buy an entirely new wardrobe in gorgeous burgundy and neutral tones!

Of course, something I’ve looked at a lot has been the new season handbags. I feel like there are 3 key handbag trends for Fall:
1. Small Cross Body Bags
2. Backbacks
3. Red and burgundy tones

I’ve picked out a few bags that I love and feel are right on trend for this season. Who knows, maybe I'll bite the bullet and add one of these to my collection in the next few weeks. I really shouldn't but I probably will. A girl can never have too many handbags!

Let me know which one is your favourite!
In Henri Bendel's classic buttery soft leather this is the backpack of my dreams. I adore the minimalistic style of this and the drawstring top. Seriously dreamy. If Henri Bendel delivered to the UK I would purchase this in an instant!

For those of us can't quite justify spending so much money on a Chanel Le Boy bag, this is a perfect alternative! I'm absolutely smitten with the Boy bag and I've been eying up this similar one by Rebecca Minkoff for a few months now. I love the quilted effect on the front of the bag and it looks even better in burgundy although it is also available in black!

When did Skagen start doing handbags!? Is this a new addition to the brand or have they always done them and I've just never noticed? I'm a huge fan of their watches, I actually own three, so I was very excited to come across their bag collection! I love the innovative style of this bag, not only is it cross body, it also has a wristlet strap so you can use it in a multitude of different ways to suit your outfit. How useful is that!? This bag also comes in a variety of colours, I particularly loved it in 'Grey Steel' as shown here but truthfully every colour looks just as gorgeous!

I think I can safely say this bag was 'love at first sight' for me. Like the 'Dorty' it also has a selection of ways to carry it; as a cross body satchel, using the top handles on your arm or as a large clutch. I love the simplicity of this bag and the slouchy nature of it. Again it is available in a variety of colours, all gorgeous, however I've fallen in love with it in 'Wine'. I've already convinced myself not to buy it at least twice today!

This bag differs from the classic MBMJ range in that it has blacked out hardwear and boy, oh boy is it gorgeous! All black outfits are perfect for this time of year (anytime actually) and bags with black hardwear definitely add that a little extra edginess. It's the perfect size for slipping your phone, keys, cash and a lip product into! For anyone looking for an all black bag for Fall, this is the one for you!

This is my ideal little red bag for Fall. With it's perfect size, two zippered closures, multiple interior pockets and exterior zippered compartment, whats not to love? The 'Dark Red' colour has just the right amount of depth to it, this would look great with so many outfits. Once again, if Henri Bendel delivered to the UK I would already own this!

The backpack version of the burgundy cross body bag I included above. I feel backpacks are going to continue to be hugely popular over the next few months and I love how this one looks! I feel like this would be the perfect partner to distressed denim or any form of leather. It's super sassy, edgy and just perfect in my opinion.

Another Skagen bag, I feel like they might be my new favourite brand. This one comes with a detachable cross body strap or can be used as a clutch. I love it in 'Wine' the same as the 'Mikkeline' bag but once again in does come in a variety of colours. I feel like this is a perfect bag for everyday use that is perfectly minimal, it makes a statement without being too flashy with glitzy hardwear.

Kate Spade and Kimonos

Sunday, 24 August 2014

Kimono: H&M, Top: Zara, Shorts: Hollister Co. Shoes: Toms

This is one of my classic go-to outfits when on holiday. I wore it a lot when I was in Tenerife in March, so it goes without saying that I wore it a ton on my most recent trip away. Have I really been back for nearly three weeks!? I found that this kimono was great for going out to dinner or shopping when the inside air conditioning resembles the Antarctic.

I should also mention the Kate Spade bag I'm using here. I picked it up the day before I took these photos at the Kate Spade Outlet store in Orlando (I may have actually left the store with two other bags, but that's beyond the point..). The outlet store has a really great selection of bags, at AMAZING prices! Most of the stock was discounted from the original price anyway, but there was an additional 40% off the entire store! Not to mention when my 15% student discount was applied and taking into consideration the US Dollar/British Pound currency conversion, it was too good a bargain to pass up. Combined with the fact I can never say no to a new handbag, it was a done deal.

The Maxi Skirt And I

Friday, 22 August 2014

Top: Topshop, Skirt: M&S, Shoes: Mulberry
I've never owned a maxi skirt before, it was just one of those things that never really appealed. I'm not a huge skirt person anyway so for years I've never really given it a second though, quite content with owning just a few maxi dresses instead. While shopping before I went on holiday though, I had I guess what you could call a eureka moment. I needed to get a maxi skirt. Why? I'm not sure. Do I regret it? Definitely not.

I had been planning on getting a black one, that would have been the sensible option. It goes with a lot, it's easy to wear. No problem. Then, I found this gorgeous red one and I fell in love. Is it the most practical of colours for matching tops with? No. It's pretty limited to black, white and a few other exceptions.  Regardless, I love it all the same and I'm going to be wearing it for summers to come.

P.s. Ten points to whoever can work out the song reference in my title. I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop recently! Hint: It's a popular musical.

Home Comforts

Tuesday, 12 August 2014

An outfit from one of my first days back in the UK. Keeping it casual with one of my favourite pairs of jeans and a top I have been wearing non-stop the last few months. I decided to try tying a shirt around my waist, I feel like it makes the outfit a little more exciting and I love how it looks. I'm definitely going to be trying out this trend a lot more.

I thought I would mix it up a little bit and post a more recent outfit, rather than another batch of photos that I took while I was away. I think I have around five or six more posts lined up, so watch out for them!

I'm heading down to Edinburgh in a few days time for a long weekend, so I'll be spending the next few days finishing unpacking only to be packing again almost immediately. I've been excitedly trying to plan my outfits for my trip and I'm itching to get my leather jacket back out. Here's hoping it's going to be a little colder this weekend so I can take it with me.

(Is this the first time I've ever wished for it to be colder? Yes, I think so. What is happening to me?!..)

Top: Topshop, Shirt: Republic Clothing, Jeans:  Zara, Shoes: Gabor

Blue, Grey and Bonsai?

Saturday, 9 August 2014

Dress: Gap, Bag: Mulberry Alexa in Bluebelle Blue
This was my 'I'm sitting in a car for four hours, I'm running late and I want to be comfy' outfit. I love the fact that this dress has pockets, it makes it so much more practical! I picked up this one from Gap in May/June along with another one in navy with the intention of taking them away with me. They were great for just throwing on in the morning to go for breakfast or for travelling, like I did here.

I love the colour combination that ended up happening with the grey and the blue, it's one of my all time favourite combinations. Actually I love pairing any form of bright colour with grey, (older readers will remember my grey and bright pink layout!)

In other news, I bought a bonsai tree yesterday. I have affectionately named him 'Treebeard', in homage to the Ent from 'The Lord of the Rings' of the same name. I absolutely adore bonsai trees and I felt like it was time for me to invest in a new one. I've put it on my desk for just now although I might need to move it again because I'm not sure if there is enough sunlight there.. Enough about bonsai trees though, have a great weekend!

iPhone Diary - July 2014

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

After being on holiday for over a month, I'm having some serious holiday blues right now. I arrived home on Monday to a lovely sunny Scotland, that didn't last long though as the rain has already returned. To cheer myself up, I had a look through my iPhone at all the photos I took when I was away (a whopping 1,813 to be exact!!). I picked out a few of my favourites to share with you! Descriptions below, and are from left to right, top to bottom.

Flying into Miami at night | First French Toast breakfast of the holiday (it was super yummy!) | My view for the day in Labadee, Haiti | How gorgeous was the water in Haiti?

The beach in Haiti was also gorgeous, I took far too many photos there | Another Haiti photo, this is my new iPhone wallpaper! | A door I found in Jamaica, I was obsessed with the colour scheme! | Palm tree close up

Another gorgeous beach, this time in Cozumel Mexico | Smoothies back on the boat | My happy place | Sunrise arriving back into Port Everglades, Miami

Classic palm tree sunset photo after dinner | Trees at Naples Zoo | SoBe water cap quote | Gringotts bank at Universal Studios Orlando Florida

Wearing my favourite shorts | Driving home in Orlando | Spending the day at Disney Hollywood Studios with my favourite snowman, Olaf | Patterned trousers are the way to go

Interesting colours in a carpark, downtown Orlando | New Marc Jacobs Beauty products to try out | Bought one or two things from Kate Spade (okay, maybe three, but sssh!) | Magic Kingdom, my favourite place on earth!

How I felt about leaving Magic Kingdom | Cracker Barrel French Toast breakfast is amazing | Pomegranate ice lolly in the sun | Amazing sunset on my last night in Florida

Aqua Please

Saturday, 2 August 2014

Today is my last full day in Florida. I'm so sad to be leaving and heading home. I could easily spend another month out here, mostly because I've only just discovered how amazing the iced tea is here. The weather is pretty great as well though.

This is a photo from a few weeks ago when I was in Naples, FL. I love this dress so much, the pattern is amazing. I love very graphic Aztec prints, so this ticks all the boxes for me. I also really love the style of it, I've been loving anything with a similar neckline recently. It was from topshop last year and I wish it had been available in more colours. I think it would look really good in pink or orange.

Patterned Shorts Forever

Sunday, 27 July 2014

Best shorts ever? Yes. As soon as I saw them in Zara a few months ago I knew that I couldn't leave the shop without them. I would wear these everyday if I could.. Maybe I will, although I'm not sure how warm they'll be in November..

It feels crazy that I've been on holiday for three weeks now. I can't believe that this time next week I'll be packing up and heading to the airport. I've still got seven days left to soak up the sunshine though and try fit in as many French Toast breakfasts as I can! (The current total is 11.)

Denim Cool

Monday, 21 July 2014

Very casual today. The t-shirt is one I picked up from J.Crew at the start of the week, I love the pattern on it and, of course, the colour. I can't say no to a grey top, (I might have bought 5 grey tops in the last week). Going for a pretty laid back vibe with some denim shorts from Hollister and suede slip-on shoes from Michael Kors. I found the shoes at Nordstrom Rack and they are unbelievably comfortable, although they did turn my feet black!

I wore this for taking a walk to the beach and going for dinner at the 'Old Naples Pub'. I had spinach dip with tortilla chips and it was delicious! Spinach dip is my new favourite dish to have when dining out, even if it can sound a little off putting. So yummy.

Coral Me Maybe

Friday, 18 July 2014

Another fairly simple outfit today. The same black chino shorts from J.Crew as my last post (I did say they were my favourite!!). I've never been drawn to the scalloped edged trend that hit Topshop a while back but then I saw this top and completely fell in love. I think it's mostly to do with the gorgeous colour of it! It's definitely been another favourite of mine while I've been away. Finishing off with my beloved new Mulberry sandals. Have I mentioned before how much I love them? Best. Shoes. Ever.

Tomorrow is my last day here before travelling north to up to Orlando in Central Florida where I'll be staying for my last two weeks in the States. Although I'm looking forward to my time in Orlando, I'll be sad to leave here. I'll definitely miss the early morning walks to the beach.

P.s. I have no shame in admitting I've been listening to 'Call Me Maybe' on repeat for the last few days, and the title of this post is most definitely a reference to that. So. Catchy.

Black and White and Yellow

Monday, 14 July 2014

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last week or so. I arrived in South-West Florida yesterday, having just come off a week long Caribbean cruise, where I had no access to internet. The cruise was perfect. Warm, sunny, tropical islands and all you can eat breakfasts. My personal heaven. I'll be doing a post with some of the photos I took last week very soon!

In the meantime, make sure to follow me on Instagram for photos while I'm in Florida! Username: JOAMEA
For today I went for a very simple outfit for relaxing by the pool and going to the shops (I resisted the urge to purchase anything from the Nordstrom handbag department, big round of applause for me!) My favourite shorts at the moment are these black chino ones from J.Crew. So comfortable and the perfect length! Paired with a cropped white vest from Topshop. I've been completely obsessed with these tops while I've been away. Maybe I took 6 of them in a variety of colours away with me, maybe I didn't. Finishing off with my black TOMS and, of course, my yellow Marc Jacobs Percy Flap to add a bit of colour.

I hope you're having a great July so far! See you soon!

Blue Stripes

Thursday, 26 June 2014

Gap Shirt | Gap Jeans | White Converse | Ray-Bans Wayfarer Sunglasses

Going for what I would call a classic 'Gap' look here, makes sense as both my jeans and shirt are from there. One of my favourite shops, my wardrobe is made up of probably 50% Gap pieces. They're all just so comfy and easy to wear!

I love the jeans I'm wearing here. I've had them for nearly a year now and always decided against wearing them. I think it's because of the length of them, they hit right at my ankles and I always felt that made it look like I'd had a growth spurt and grown out of them. I had the 'genius' idea of turning them up a little though, and now they're perfect! Why did I not think of that sooner!? I also loved wearing what is essentially a head-to-toe blue outfit, very different from my usual all black. It also makes me feel less like Darth Vader, which is a huge plus (no matter how much I love Star Wars).

Banana Creme Anyone?

Tuesday, 24 June 2014

Topshop Top | Topshop Tile Print Trousers (similar) | Gabor Shoes | Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Percy Flap in Banana Creme
I've been itching to wear these trousers for the past few days but the weather has been a little unpredictable which kept stopping me. Finally it's nice day though, so its time for them to make an appearance. I'm a really big fan of the pattern on them, there's just something I can't help but love! Probably my favourite trousers ever, I could talk about them for days.

As it was such a lovely day I felt like my outfit needed a little pop of colour, so added in my new Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. I've been on a yellow kick recently, so I seem to have been pairing this bag with nearly every outfit. (I'm surprised that this is the first time it's been featured on the blog actually!!) I always love the Marc Jacobs colour names so of course, 'Banana Creme' is no exception.
