A Scottish Girl in Paris

Sunday, 6 September 2015

I did mention in my last post that things were going to be changing didn't I? Even I didn't expect my life to change as drastically as it has, but here I am writing this from my new home, in Paris. Yes, you did read that correctly, Paris.

I'm going to be here for the next four months on a semester abroad as part of my third year of university. So naturally my main goal is going to be to be to acquire some of the effortlessly chic French style and of course, eat as many croissants and macarons as I possibly can. I can tell I'm going to be on a first name basis with my local bakery by the time I leave. (I may have already gone for a sneaky croissant break while typing this up.)

I've been here for exactly 10 days so far however I feel like I haven't been fully appreciating how much of an amazing opportunity this is going to be, not only do I get to study Fashion Design in one of the fashion capitals of the world, but I get to live in the centre of Paris, something a countless number of people aspire to do. I've been very wrapped up with missing those at home and all the small things that I take for granted while living at home. Who knew I would miss being able to pop round to the supermarket and pick up a tin of kidney beans in chilli sauce? Apparently tinned beans aren't as much of a thing in mainland Europe.

I'm slowly getting used to all the small things that make France so different to Scotland though. Hopefully once I start classes next week and get into a routine this new way of life will start to feel a little more normal.

For now though, here are a few snaps I've taken since I arrived. Au revoir for now!

Denim Overalls

Saturday, 4 July 2015

It's been a while. I know.

My life has been non-stop crazy over the last six months. Between moving into a new apartment, a trip to Tenerife and finishing my second year of university I've barely had a free minute. This is something that isn't going to change though as the second half of the year looks to be even more crazy. I can't wait to share everything that's happening with you.

Speaking of sharing everything with you, my blog is going to be going through a bit of a refurbishment over the next few weeks hopefully. I want to start including more of my life here, rather than just photos of my outfits and lists of the handbags I'm currently lusting over. Although there will still be plenty of that, don't worry!

Here are some photos I actually took last summer though. It's only taken me 10 months to post them! I've been loving wearing a bit more blue denim over the last few weeks and I've also been really into overalls/dungarees, whatever you want to call them. So these denim ones are my idea of perfect. I'm on the search for a black pair because lets be honest, my wardrobe is primarily black and grey and you can never go wrong with some black overalls. Am I right?

I've been really enjoying wearing them with a cropped top underneath, showing a little bit of skin at the side without the full blown, 'HERE IS MY BELLYBUTTON' vibe. I also like the contrast between the very practical, almost tom boy look of the overalls with the very girly floaty top here. This was the outfit I had in mine when I originally picked up this pair.

I'll be back with another post soon, not six months like last time, see you then!

Houndstooth Daze

Thursday, 22 January 2015

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate how gorgeous my new coat is?

Yep, it's perfect. I picked it up a few weeks ago and I've been wearing it a lot. I was a little worried the pattern would make it too much of a statement, but considering I wear a lot of all black outfits it works pretty well. I've been really liking anything houndstooth recently, and there's been so much of it in the shops, is this part of the sixties revival trend that is happening? I've been searching for a good houndstooth skirt for a few years now with no luck, so maybe this will be the season I finally find the one I've been looking for. Who knows, maybe I'll even push the boat out a bit and sew my own, putting those fancy fashion design skills I learn all day to good use.

Speaking of university, it's good to be back after the winter break, although I would like to apologise for my less than perfect photos. Finding space in my little tiny flat in the city is rather difficult! I've been so busy with coursework, there's always something else that needs to be done. Currently I'm designing a pair of jeans. It's far more difficult than you would think, the main problem being that they are such a classic style it can be daunting to do something that challenges that too much. I've found a direction that I am really excited about though, so I'm hoping I'll have an end result that I'm happy with. Hopefully once every things finished I'll be able to wear them myself, so you never know, they might be appearing on here soon!

The Ultimate Scarf

Sunday, 11 January 2015

Happy New Year! Can you believe it's already 2015? Crazy.

This is an outfit I've found myself wearing a few times over the last few weeks, mostly because I've been looking for any excuse to wear this scarf! I picked it up in Zara before a trip to London at the beginning of December and I've been wearing it non-stop since! It has so many colours in it so it's super easy to match with outfits, and it's really large in size meaning it's incredibly warm and cosy. Zara also have a similar style scarf in black so I'll be looking to add that to my collection in the next few weeks, especially as the temperature is sure to drop even further in the next few months. I'm

Knitted Top: Topshop, Leggings: Zara, Jacket: Gap, Scarf: Zara, Boots: Limited at M&S

I'm going to be posting a lot more regularly this year, it's my resolution to be more organised and manage my time better in all aspects of my life, not just blogging! It'll soon be apparent how well I manage to stick to that though!

See you next time,

Winter Wishlist

Monday, 22 December 2014

Is it just me that feels it's been winter for months now? I'm getting a little sick of having to wear multiple pairs of socks to stop my toes freezing off! Spring is still a good two months away though, so I'll need to put up with my winter wardrobe for a bit longer. That means I still have plenty time to add a few new cold weather appropriate pieces to my ever expanding wardrobe though. Here's a peak into my wish list as we head toward the new year.

1. Stretch Leather Boots, Black or Grey - Zara, £99.99
I've yet to invest in a pair of knee high boots, I can never find a pair that fit my legs nicely. I have high hopes for these ones from Zara though, the elasticated back sounds perfect! As ever, I can never say no to a pair of Suede boots, I know these are going to be walking into my shoe collection sometime soon, the only question left is black or grey. What do you think?

2. Checked Scarf - Zara, £19.99
My favourite thing about winter dressing is definitely big cosy scarves. I picked up a very autumnal coloured plaid one from Zara a few weeks ago and I've been wearing it nonstop, even if it is so big it partially obscures my vision! I debated picking this one up at the same time but resisted, it would be a perfect way to complete a cozy monochrome outfit though!

3. Printed Cigarette Trousers - Zara, £35.99
Printed trousers are always a good idea. I really love these houndstooth ones and they would be perfect year-round, not just for winter. Typical me, I've been wearing monochrome for probably three months straight now, and these would fit into my wardrobe perfectly. They'd be so perfect with a chunky black roll neck.

4. Seam Front V-Neck Jumper - Topshop, £38.00
I already own this jumper in khaki, and it's wonderful. Soft, slightly oversized and super warm without being the annoying itch that usually comes with winter jumpers. When I find a piece of clothing I really love, it's not uncommon for me to buy it in various colours. This jumper is no exception.

5. Houndstooth Cape - Zara, £79.99
Once again with the houndstooth, I love this cape/jacket. Again this was something I nearly purchases last time I was in store. As soon as the Zara sale arrives next week, this will be in my basket on it's way to me. I think this will look amazing with some black leggings and boots.

6. Eskimo Friend Ankle Boots - Asos, £55.00 now £27 on sale
These look incredibly comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of noisy heels on pavements so the rubberised heel on these is perfect for me. I'm always on the lookout for a great pair of black boots and I really like the style of these.

7. Mesh Panel Jumper - Topshop, £42.00
Does this remind anyone else of something that top from the Alexander Wang x H&M collection? This is a great, slightly more reserved version for those of us who didn't manage to pick it up before it sold out. I wasn't a huge fan of the AW one, but I could see myself wearing this one all the time.

Hopefully one or two of these pieces will be making their way to me soon! What is top of your winter fashion wish list?

Burgundy Bags and Autumn Loving

Monday, 13 October 2014

With it now being well into Autumn, this post seems a little overdue. I can't believe these photos were taken nearly six weeks ago. September was crazy hectic and it looks like October is going to be pretty similar. I'd forgotten how busy it is during term time at university, a fashion design degree ain't no walk in the park!

Despite this post being planned for sometime in September, I feel like my planned title remains appropriate. I'm still loving autumn and burgundy bags just as much as I did then! I feel like this is the perfect time of year for my Coach bag, I could just stare at the colour for days! Pairing it with a monochrome outfit really makes it pop.

The weather's been getting progressively colder though over the last few weeks, so the days of not wearing a jacket are long gone. I would probably pair this outfit with my leather jacket, which has barely had a rest this month. What would I do without it!?

Here's hoping that it won't be quite so long until my next post, and that your lives have been far less hectic than mine! Have a great week.

Plaid on a Thursday

Thursday, 18 September 2014

I love the beginning of Fall, when we still have some of those gorgeous warm days. This was from a few weeks ago now. Kept it casual as usual but decided to add a bit of colour with this red shirt. I feel like it was the perfect addition to my outfit. Again, more blue jeans, I did say I've been wearing them non-stop.

I'm now back at university and all moved into my flat for the year. It feels so strange yet comforting to be back once again. It's crazy that I'm a quarter of the way through my degree already.
